10 things I've learned in 10 Months of Marriage

Today makes exactly 10 months that I and Forrest have been married. Time has FLOWN by!! It feels like just yesterday that I was frantically trying to get everything ready for our wedding and BOOM here we are 10 months in. Truthfully, 10 months is only a small fraction of time in the almost 7 years that we have been together. But I've learned that marriage is very different from dating. When you take someones last name you take on a whole lot of other things with it. Some of those things aren't so easy but the good things weigh out the bad 10 to 1. I'm no professional, however, I have learned some things along the way and I thought I would share them with you.

1. Never Stop Dating. I know this must sound weird considering the whole already married part. But marriage shouldn't be boring you should always keep things interesting and that's why dates are so important. Make time for you and your significant other away from the kids or in my case dog and cat. P.S I think our dog, Ollie, is worse than a child because he hates when me and Forrest kiss and is determined to get right between us when we do hahaha.

2. Admit When You're Wrong. You can't be right all the time, no matter how bad you want to be. Sometimes you have to put your pride aside for the sake of your marriage and admit that you're wrong. It might hurt at the time but you'll thank your future self for doing it. It's perfectly fine to be Mrs. Usually Right and Mr. Sometimes Right!!

3. Never Go To Bed Angry. Relationships are tough especially when you spend every day together. Arguments are bound to happen but the important thing is that you work them out. Talk through your problems before you lay your head down on that pillow because tomorrow is a new day and you can't spend your time worrying about yesterday.

4. Say "I LOVE YOU" Everyday. Or multiple times a day. This is something Forrest and I have always been good at. We make a point to tell each other "I love you" every night before we go to sleep. People need to know how you feel about them and saying those 3 little words can really make a difference in someones day.

5. Depend On Each Other. In this crazy big world it's nice to know that someone has your back no matter what. Life is tough very tough! One of the hardest things I've ever been through happened while I and Forrest were engaged, my mom was diagnosed with a extremely rare form of breast cancer. It was suppose to be one of happiest times of my life but it was also the hardest. Forrest is one of the main reasons I got through it. I knew I could depend on him, I knew I could talk with him, I knew he would have my back no matter what. Isn't that what marriage is all about?.. knowing that you have someone to depend on.

6. Laugh A LOT. I'm so thankful that this is something that has always came easy between Forrest and me. His humor is one of the many reasons that made me fall in love with him. I know you've heard it before but laughter really is the best medicine. When you love and laugh abundantly you live a beautiful life!

7. Kiss Passionately Everyday. Keep the romance alive. Studies have shown that couples that kiss more frequently have lower levels of stress and higher levels of relationship satisfaction. So take it from me and science, kissing is very important!!

8. Compliment Each Other. It's crucial that your significant other knows you are proud of them. So build them up! Everyone needs a little compliment booster every now and then.

9. Live Life To The Fullest. Life is short so live every moment that you can to the fullest. Go on adventures. Travel the world. Eat the brownie. In my experience there is nothing better than doing new things with the one you love.

10. Make Sure God Is Apart Of Your Marriage. Have you ever heard the saying, "Put God first and everything else will fall into place."? Man is that saying true! When Forrest and I got married we did a hand tying ceremony with three cords because one of my favorite bible verses is "A triple braided cord is not easily broken." -Ecclesiastes 4:12 We want God to be our number one priority in our marriage and we made that promise to each other on our wedding day.

Here's to the things I've learned and the many new things I will learn. Happy 10 Months Babe!!
